Distracted Driving

Unfortunately, the number one cause of car accidents is distracted driving.  That’s more than drunk driving, road rage and many other reasons.  We drive so often that it can feel like it’s second nature.  Unfortunately our attention must always be 100% on the road.  You never know when the person in front of you will come to an unexpected stop, when a deer or other animal might run out in front of your vehicle.

Speeding

Everyone speeds from time to time.  Unfortunately when we speed our reaction times decrease.  So if we lose control or need to react unexpectedly and quickly, our reactions won’t be nearly as good as it would be if we were driving the speed limit.

Drunk Driving

When you drink, your ability to focus and function properly decreases.  And on top of that, your reaction time decreases as well.  Unfortunately, drunk driving causes accidents every day.  With resources like buses, taxis, and ride share programs, there is no excuse to ever drive drunk.  It’s much better to shell out the $10 for an Uber to take you home than be responsible for vehicle repair and potentially injuring someone.

Weather

Depending on where you live weather can be a huge factor in driving.  It’s almost inevitable to experience driving in the rain at some point during the year.  This can create slick roads which tires can struggle to grip.  It can be difficult even driving the speed limit to maintain control, but if you have poor tires, or are speeding, your chances of losing control are multiplied.  While rain can be dangerous, that’s nothing compared to snow.  Snow is one of the most dangerous weather phenomenons to drive in.  It’s hard to judge what is worse, individuals who have to deal with snow for the entirety of winter, or individuals who only receive a small amount of snow each year and are unaccustomed to driving in it.

Running Traffic Stops

Did you know a large number of accidents are caused by individuals running stop light and stop signs?  When you run a traffic stop, you run the risk of t-boning someone or being hit yourself.  These are often some of the most dangerous types of car crashes and often lead to serious injuries and sometimes death.
