Last week we talked to you about things you should do in the event of a fender bender. Here’s part 2 on our list.
6. GET CONTACT INFORMATION FROM WITNESSES
It might not sound necessary. You might think it was a small fender bender and witnesses are necessary. But like we said last week, a small bump that looks like no damage might have actually broken something underneath. Get information from witnesses in case you need to get repairs on your vehicle and the at fault person doesn’t want to pay.
7. TAKE PHOTOS
Obviously you should take photos of any damage, both to your vehicle and to the other person’s vehicle. Take pictures of the outside and the inside of your vehicle. This can help you with your insurance and any legal claims that may arise later.
8. DON’T POST TO SOCIAL MEDIA
It’s never a good idea to post about your car accident on social media. You never know what information you might give away or how you may incriminate yourself. If things escalate to legal action, even the verbiage you use while talking to your friends can end up being detrimental to your case.
9. CALL YOUR INSURANCE
A lot of the time people want to keep things off of their insurance’s radar. Especially when it’s something as small as a fender bender that might not show any damage. But it’s important to notify them – as we said in our other points – you never know what happened underneath the surface and if you’ll need insurance assistance later. Take a breath and call your insurance. Know what you’re going to say before you call. It’s important to know what coverage you have at all times. And be sure not to share unnecessary information with the other party’s insurance who may call you as well.
10. DON’T GET TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AT REPAIR SHOPS
Don’t let your fender bender become old news. Take your car in to be inspected to make sure it’s in tip-top shape. If there is damage that needs to be repaired, be sure to get several quotes from different shops. We promise to never overcharge or take advantage of our customers, and because we believe in the quality and honesty of our shop, we encourage you to get other estimates from other shops.
It’s important to remember that the insurance company is not your friend. Their interest lies in gettin your damaged car back on the road as inexpensively as possible. While we also want you to be able to repair your car for as cheap as possible, we also want to make sure that you get the quality repair that you deserve.
If you need auto repair we hope you think of East End Body Shop first.
