It can be hard to know what to do once you’ve been in an accident, especially if it has left your car in really bad shape. You might not be in the best shape either, suffering from injuries or whiplash, and you might feel a bit overwhelmed. “Should I fix my car, or should I just scrap it?”

It can be hard to determine, especially if you don’t have a lot of money for a new car, or if this car’s value seems to be somewhere in a similar range of getting the repairs done. You need to think about your own healing and health, and this is a big decision that can cost thousands of dollars. It’s not something to make a quick decision about.

Give us a call at East End Body Shop if you’re located near Huntington, WV. We can help you get an accurate quote on fixing your car, and from there, you can do some simple math.

Dave Ramsey has a great way of determining if you should repair or replace your car. Here’s his formula.

Estimate the value of your vehicle (without repairs) on a site like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds. For this example, let’s say your car is worth $5,000, and your estimated repair from East End Body Shop is $1,000, which will bring your car’s value up to $6,000. For this example, if you were to sell your car after the repair is made, you’d still recoup the money you just put into it. So fixing your car is probably the way to go.

On the other hand, if that repair was estimated at $2,000 and it still only brought your $5,000 value up to $6,000 it might be a better idea toward selling the car in its current state, and putting that $7,000 toward another car. This would mean you’re getting a better car for the same money.

We hope that’s an easy formula for determining if you should fix your car or sell it. And as always, if you are looking for auto body repair in the Huntington, WV area, we hope you think of East End Body Shop.
